Situ\u00e9 sur le\nterritoire de Trouville-sur-Mer, \u00e0 Hennequeville, il\nest souvent improprement appel\u00e9 S\u00e9maphore de\nVillerville du nom de sa commune limitrophe \u00e0\nl\u2019Est.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Culminant \u00e0 136 m\u00e8tres au-dessus du niveau de la\nmer, cette tour de guet jouit d\u2019une vue imprenable\nsur l\u2019estuaire gr\u00e2ce aux larges baies vitr\u00e9es de sa\nchambre de veille. 24 heures sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7,\nde puissantes jumelles permettent \u00e0 ses guetteurs\nde surveiller le trafic maritime, de Ouistreham au\nPont de Normandie, dans un secteur int\u00e9grant\nl\u2019entr\u00e9e du port du Havre o\u00f9 se croisent, tous\ntrafics confondus, entre 8 000 et 10 000 navires\npar an : bateaux de p\u00eache, de plaisance, b\u00e2timents\nde commerce dont un tiers environ de p\u00e9troliers,\nchimiquiers, m\u00e9thaniers et gaziers.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sa construction a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 1910, apr\u00e8s que la\nMarine ait fait l\u2019acquisition du terrain en 1908. Il est\nentr\u00e9 en service en 1912. It is often mistakenly referred to as the Semaphore of Villerville. At 136m above sea-level, this tower has a breathtaking view of the water thanks to its large windows. The watchtower is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With its powerful binoculars, it is able to properly keep watch of the sea traffic, from Ouistreham to the Normandy Bridge. This area includes the busy harbor, the Havre, where the traffic can range from 8,000 to 10,000 ships in a year: fishing boats, private yachts and industrial ships. <br><br>Its construction started in 1910 after the French Marines got control of the land in 1908. It was put into service in 1912. In 1977, the tower was rebuilt taller than before to include today\u2019s viewing bay with its large windows.
