Envisag\u00e9e d\u00e8s 1869, sa r\u00e9alisation a pos\u00e9 bien des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 immobili\u00e8re qui avait obtenu le droit d\u2019endiguement en 1874, et c\u2019est seulement en 1888 qu\u2019elle fut enfin achev\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aux grandes mar\u00e9es, p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 la mer se retire le plus loin, des piliers m\u00e9talliques d\u00e9couvrent sur l\u2019estran&nbsp;: ce sont les restes d\u2019une <strong>jet\u00e9e-promenade<\/strong> (sorte de pier \u00e0 l\u2019anglaise) longue de 350 m, qui s\u2019enracinait perpendiculairement \u00e0 la digue et dont la fonction premi\u00e8re \u00e9tait de permettre l\u2019accostage des bateaux \u00e0 vapeur qui ont reli\u00e9 quotidiennement Trouville au Havre, de 1850 \u00e0 1940. En 1943 cette grande jet\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9mont\u00e9e par l\u2019occupant, qui craignait qu\u2019elle soit utilis\u00e9e pour un \u00e9ventuel d\u00e9barquement des Alli\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 de la digue, affleurent les couches g\u00e9ologiques dat\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e8re secondaire qui constituent le sous-sol des lieux. Mus\u00e9e Villa Montebello.&nbsp; <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background has-large-font-size\" style=\"color:#414d57\">The dam, the path by the pier and the Roches noires<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/www.trouville.fr\/mp3\/Histoire-maritime\/en\/09-L-ancienne-jetee-promenade.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\">To be able to build on the side of the beach, the base of the cliffs had to be stabilized and protected from the dangers of erosion. Planned since 1869, the dams construction was halted because of issues regarding the real estate company that had bought the land in 1874. The dam was finally built in 1888.<br><br>When the tide is at its most powerful low tide, we are able to see large metal pillars on the foreshore- these are what\u2019s left of the old pier. Measuring 350m, it was perpendicular to the dam. Its primary purpose was to serve as a dock for the steamboats that would frequently travel between Trouville and the Havre from 1850 to 1940. In 1943, the pier was taken down by the Germans who occupied the city, who worried it would be used by the coming allied forces.<br><br>Further along the beach, there are several geological layers that date back to the Mesozoic Era. These layers became relatively unstable because of the clay-like surface from Villerville, the land was impossible to build on. This lead to the naming of the area as the \u201cRoches noires\u201d (black boulders).
