Elle\nt\u00e9moigne d\u2019une m\u00e9salliance : c\u2019est pour rendre\ngr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la Vierge de lui avoir permis d\u2019\u00e9pouser\nMarie de Surtainville, issue de la haute noblesse\nhonfleuraise, que le modeste p\u00eacheur Guillaume\nCroix d\u00e9cida de l\u2019\u00e9lever.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signe divin, une statue de ch\u00eane repr\u00e9sentant\nSainte Anne fut d\u00e9pos\u00e9e par le flot juste devant,\net trouva donc naturellement sa place dans le\npetit \u00e9difice&#8230; Il n\u2019en fallait pas plus pour que le\nlieu devienne l\u2019objet de la d\u00e9votion des marins,\nentretenue par leur perp\u00e9tuelle appr\u00e9hension\ndes dangers de la mer.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Victime d\u2019une temp\u00eate, elle a d\u00fb \u00eatre reconstruite\nen 1902 aux frais de la famille Croix, aid\u00e9e par\nune souscription des p\u00eacheurs, lesquels ont\ntapiss\u00e9 ses murs d\u2019ex-voto pour exprimer leur\nreconnaissance d\u2019avoir \u00e9chapp\u00e9 \u00e0 quelque sinistre\nmaritime.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cern\u00e9e par les immeubles, la \u00ab petite Chapelle \u00bb\nse distingue \u00e0 peine dans la rue qui porte son nom\ndepuis toujours. The chapel is the fruit of a forbidden love- It was built by Guillaume Croix, a fisherman, in thanks to the Virgin Mary for her permission to marry Marie de Surtainville, a woman from a noble family. <br><br>Later, an oak statue representing Saint Anne was placed in front of the chapel where it would stay. The chapel quickly became an important safe haven for fishermen and would be maintained with its original designed with their help. <br><br>After a violent storm, the chapel had to be rebuilt in 1902. The reconstruction was financed largely by the Croix family but also by the devoted fishermen in the community who were thankful for the chapel\u2019s protection. <br><br>Now surrounded by houses and apartments, the \u201clittle chapel\u201d is well hidden.
