Un canot n\u2019\u00e9tait d\u2019ailleurs pas toujours indispensable car la rivi\u00e8re pouvait \u00eatre travers\u00e9e \u00e0 gu\u00e9 \u00e0 mar\u00e9e basse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la construction du pont en 1862, la <strong>gu\u00e9rite du bac<\/strong> fut d\u00e9plac\u00e9e de 300 m vers l\u2019aval, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 elle se trouve encore aujourd\u2019hui. De l\u00e0 on embarque dans le petit canot qui fait la navette, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un escalier \u00e9difi\u00e9 en 1875 dans le quai de briques qui le soutient. A ferryboat wasn\u2019t always a necessity since the river can be crossed on foot during low tide. After the construction of the bridge in 1862, the ferry was installed 300m from the ocean\u2019s opening. From this point, crossers load onto the ferry, via the stairway installed in 1875.
